My Approach…

EMOTION-FOCUSED

Emotion-focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic process that involves discovering how our core emotions are connected to our challenges in the present, and how we can come to understand and transform these emotional experiences. Sometimes processing emotions can include the infamous “talking to a chair.” I promise it’s not as scary as it sounds!

COMPASSION-FOCUSED

Compassion-focused Therapy (CFT) encourages individuals to show compassion towards themselves and others, with the goal of disrupting the “stress cycle” through self-soothing. In session this looks like consistently disrupting the self-critical voice and formulating gentler thoughts towards ourselves.

SOMATICALLY INFORMED

Understanding how the nervous system impacts our emotions, thoughts, and behaviour, allows us to begin exploring ways of regulation that can be found within the body. Sometimes in session we will experiment with movement and touch, and observe the bodies response.

Would we be a good fit?

It’s such a hard question to answer! Truthfully, it is hard to tell for sure until you speak with someone and see if you can really feel comfortable connecting with them. However, I can try to give you some idea of what therapy with me could look like, and you can see if this is something that resonates with you.

Clients and colleagues have often described my therapy style as calming, gentle, and personable. Building safety in the therapeutic relationship is really important to me, so I’m not the type of therapist that is likely going to jump into challenging you right from the get go. While I hold value in my professionalism, I also want you to experience warmth and connection in the therapy space. Sessions are often emotionally heavy, but they also regularly include laughter and curiosity!

My style of therapy thrives with individuals who are looking to dig a bit deeper into themselves. I want to help you with the issues you are having in your day to day life, but my philosophy is that these challenges are likely to repeat until we understand where this emotional pain originated from and how we can learn to regulate it together. I like to share education and engage clients in experiential exercises when relevant, but you can normally expect to be talking more than me in a session.

There are many different therapists out there and if this style doesn’t resonate with you, don’t fret! You may jive more with a skills-based therapist who primarily practices styles of therapy like CBT or DBT. However, if this does sound up your alley then I’m happy to connect further for a consultation!

FAQs

How often should i come to therapy?

I generally offer sessions on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis. I usually suggest starting with weekly or bi-weekly, but I understand this can be impacted by time constraints and finances.

How long do people usually attend therapy?

This is answer is so unique to each person! I’ve worked with some people for a few months to multiple years. We will always collaborate on what feels best for you.

Do you offer a sliding scale?

My sliding scale is currently full, please see my sliding scale referral list for other options.

I offer three tiers of pricing options for individual sessions to help make therapy more accessible. You are guaranteed to be able to stay on this rate for up to a year. However, these spots often fill up fast. If they are full, I am happy to offer referrals to other providers offering accessible rates.

Please note, sliding scale is only available to individuals without insurance coverage.

How do I pay?

Payment is accepted through e-transfer and credit card. If you are accessing therapy through insurance, you will pay upfront and submit the receipt to your insurance after. I am a part of the NIHB program and can see individuals accessing therapy through this program.

Can I begin seeing you right away?

Depending on both of our availabilities, I may have a waitlist to begin sessions. I’ll always share a general estimate of how long it may take to onboard you, and if it is feeling urgent I can refer out to a trusted colleague.

Do you do Crisis Sessions?

My schedule often does not allow for last minute scheduling. I am glad to offer referrals to crisis centers in your area.
