Land Acknowledgement

At The Compassionate Body, I recognize that the land I practice on known as Tkaronto, is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

As a settler on this land, this acknowledgement represents my commitment to continuously working on incorporating a framework of collaboration and decolonization in my therapy practice. I recognize how the history of settler colonialism and systemic racism rooted in contemporary mental health care has led to trauma and harm experienced through generations. It has been an invaluable experience to learn more about traditional healing and decolonizing practices through First Nations, Metis and Inuit teachers and practitioners who have been the custodians of this land.

To help reduce barriers for accessibility, I am part of the NIHB program that provides a minimum of 22 therapy sessions per calendar year for eligible First Nations or Inuk clients. Please feel free to reach out if you are interested in more information or resources.
